things feel good today

i. Am feeling quite good about things, all things considered -- at least I am now; I have been fluctuating. An hour ago I was feeling a bit grim for no particular reason. I have been remembering to take my supplements most days, which is probably helping a bit. (Possibly more than a bit.) And I'm finally getting a bid giddy with birthday anticipation, what with waking up in the morning and thinking "THREE MORE DAYS OMG". (Actually my first thought upon waking this morning was "SIRIUS/SARAH-JANE OTP!", but that's another story altogether.)

ii. Birthday plans have been made, too, which is another source of giddiness. My birthday falls on Father's Day for the first time in six years (I was born on Father's Day, too), so Dad and I have been planning to do something together for quite a while now. Alas, no concerts could be found (everyone seems to be in Europe right now -- Germany and Switzerland and places like that), and no films playing that both of us are especially keen on, but we've managed to find some things that will be splendid. So, we're going out to each after church (Dad's preaching!): some barbecue place which is supposed to be really good. He said, "It's not a very nice place -- I mean, the food is excellent, but it's not at all fancy," to which I said, "Fie! I like a restaurant I can be comfortable in!" Which I do -- I'm not particularly big on most fine dining, because it isn't comfortable (although I love dressing up!), and I rarely like the food half as well, anyway. I am terribly fond of eating and like hearty, flavourful foods, particularly ones that go well with a book.

Afterwards, we are going to the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh! I am very excited about this, as I have always wanted to go to an art museum -- well, mostly since I developed a serious appreciation for art recently (art other than storybook illustrations, which have been a fascination and passion of mine from early childhood), but I've always loved the idea of museums in general -- I like the neatness of them; there's something about the way they're laid out that makes me feel clear. This is without even mentioning the vast amount of knowledge and history contained therein! Also there will be people to watch, which is also fun.

Then we will come home and have dinner and things. 'Things' probably referring to presents. I am allowed a wee bit of materialism on my birthday, yes? MYSTERIOUS PACKAGES AUGH. THEY TORMENT ME FROM INSIDE THE CLOSET. (At least I think they're inside the closet. They usually are.) And I want to have at least one hour all to myself -- although I will probably wake up irrationally early, as I always do on holidays out of sheer excitement, and perhaps I will sit out on the roof a while. (I may not actually post anything or use the internet much on my birthday, what with rattling about and all -- will probably log on early in the morning armed with "HAI GUYS, I AM SEVENTEEN!", nag [profile] ressie_noldo as is my wont, and do something related to Doctor Who.)

iii.
Speaking of birthdays, I wrote birthday-fic for [personal profile] safebox, which I am still fairly in awe of. Not because I think it's a work of staggering genius (though I am very fond of it), but because of the dry spell which has been discussed here at some great length. I sort of forced it out of me, and it actually turned out good. I still keep rushing back to look at it and make sure it's still existing. You can read it here (An Anatomy of the Impossible) -- it's all about Martha Jones, hurrah!

SIRIUS/SARAH-JANE OTP. THEIR LOVE IS SO, UM, FANNISH. (Well, on Sirius's side anyway. We are Sad. I was planning to make a long entry solely on this subject but Oncoming Angst interrupted it.)

Also, your birthday plans sound excellent, especially the art museum and the Mysterious Packages bit. :D (Though I do not approve of your nagging me.)

Their love is so continually thwarted is more like it. (WOE. THEY ARE STAR-CROSSED LOVERS. Um. Sort of literally, actually. Or star-crossing lovers, anyway.) And there is still time to make a long entry on this, you know. :D This is a thing the world ought to know about, if for no other reason than that if a bloke in ghastly plaid with a funny instrument made of foodstuffs shows up in a hot air balloon looking for someone, they will know what to do with him.

So, I'm new to this particular artist (thanks to you) and I adored her song "Blue Caravan." BUT I'm reluctant to buy any of her ablums because a majority of her songs seem talky to me. I'm wondering if you have certain songs of hers that are favorites of yours to recommend to a beginning fan? If so, what are they? What would you recommend I listen to of hers first?

(Yay, more Vienna fans!)

Gosh, where to start -- really, I think the entire Dreaming Through the Noise album is one of the best albums I've ever heard; it's one of those rare ones where I love pretty much every song. I'm trying to think of one song to recommend besides 'Blue Caravan', and I can't choose.

Her other two albums are excellent, though not quite up to par with Dreaming. 'The Tower', 'Gravity', and 'Between' are especially good on Waking Hour; Warm Strangers has 'Feather Moon', 'Harbor', 'My Medea', and 'Decade and One' which are of especial note. But then, everyone has different favourite songs. :D If you need some stuff uploaded, I can give you a sample, um, 'cool songs' thing, or something, though I won't be able to manage it until next week. (I like converting people! :D)

Blast, so, because of the holiday I completely forgot about, I can't get to this until after Monday, so, er, if you want to wait that long, I'll be happy to accommodate you, but otherwise you can join [livejournal.com profile] teh_music, if you haven't already, and put in a vague request for Vienna Teng songs. ♥

I'd prefer to get your opinion on the gal as it's all your raving that has me curious (and has me already slightly converted). There's no rush. I can wait. ;)

Actually my first thought upon waking this morning was "SIRIUS/SARAH-JANE OTP!"

Ahahaha - practically mine too, as I logged onto Facebook and saw your and Noldo's statuses. I'm so, so ready to jump on board that ship.

And wow, sounds like you're going to have an awesome day on Sunday! Enjoy every minute of it. =D

Ohhh. Museums are fun! I want to go to the National Art Museum again, but I doubt anyone in SLU will choose that over all the Smithsonians. (I wouldn't either if I hadn't already seen them.)

I really need to mail your package. Though it's probably going to get there late. And I don't have anything to wrap it in except packing paper. Oh well. It'll look vintage. Heh.

i. -cuddles- I'm glad you're feeling better, love. As for Sirius/Sarah Jane: I don't even want to know where that came from or anything about it. I DON'T I SWEAR.

ii. Oh, I'm certain your birthday will be lovely; I'm somewhat jealous. Museums are so lovely, aren't they? I've got an interview on Monday for a position in a museum gift shop, and I reallyreally hope it works out, because it would be so fantastic to work in a museum.
