I have never visited the eastern part of my own country :S However, I have heard many people say that the atmosphere out there is amazing and people are so friendly. I am glad you were able to experience that.
It amuses me, your comment of faddishness regarding belittling Canada. I'm ashamed to admit that I often generalize the US as the 'center of the universe' with annoyance. But I know so many nice citizens...so it just goes to show that generalizations are silly :)
