Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm rather liking Spike in a "you are such a psycho, but my gosh you're entertaining and, okay, kind of sexy" way, and I'm not even as far through the series as you are. I still like Angel better, but then I liked Spike better than Angelus, whatever that means.
