in which there is stuff

I loathe the snow and want it to run far, far away, and if I had a magical blowtorch I would...well, magically-blowtorch it away. Alack, I do not. So I am forced to suffer in silence. (Well, complaining, anyway. I SHALL NOT BE SILENT. SNOW, FEEL MY DISDAIN.)
So, my weekend of awesome.
And now I am composing weirdly philosophical fandom thoughts in my head, which means it is high time I slept. (Also: have completed fanmix of which I am rather proud, but MediaFire is being a lot of a pain and crashing every time I try to load the .zip. Hiss. Tomorrow, perhaps. *is all significant*)
So, my weekend of awesome.
i. Saturday I slogged through the snow. Does anyone shovel the sidewalks in this town? Granted, most people, unlike me, are not crazy in the head, and do not attempt to walk to the library the day after a miniature blizzard, but that is hardly an excuse, hark you. The snow-piles were mostly filthy and mostly came up past my boots, which meant that my trouser legs got all cold and soggy and the snow snuck inside of my boots and made itself generally unwelcome. Moony helped, though; shuffle is fun for walking because my stride changes with every song, and if anyone were watching me closely they would find it all very odd. Alas, all of my headphones had given out, pair by pair (seriously. three pairs. in a row. although one was rather old and decrepit anyway.), and I was forced to use the dollar pair my mother bought which are a heresy to the name of music. They kept falling out. Anyway, met Alessandra at the library, and my loans came in, which made me very happy, as did a trip to Hockman's afterwards for lots of chocolate (they were having a sale!). And then there was hob-nobbage and Mrs Huss played Cher very loudly (or was that the other day? wow, I can't even remember now).
That evening I met Victoria at the theatre for The Skin of Our Teeth (Mrs M and Sarah and Hannah were in it), which was glorious, and reminded me quite a lot of Madeleine L'Engle, especially the ending of the first act, which gave me the loveliest shivers. Very well put together in every way. My orange-and-turquoise plaid heels were admired by all, and I fell down a lot. After the performance Victoria and I wandered around doing Drusilla imitations ("d'you know what I miss? leeches.") and complimenting and conversing with Sarah and Hannah and Mrs M and contemplating games of Depressing Ballad Poker, and then the Meholicks drove us home, and we all talked very loudly and excitedly and Hannah gave us a pop quiz on the play ("question number four! was Hannah brilliant in this play?" "no!" "wrong!!!"). I haven't had such a high in a long time, although I think part of it was the Excedrin, because I was even happy doing the dishes.
ii. Sunday Mrs Nielson drove us all (Sarah, Hannah, Victoria, Alessandra, and myself) to Pittsburgh, where Hannah and Victoria had a dance lesson and where Sarah and Alessandra and myself happily perused the Very Big Mall in Pittsburgh. We met Alessandra's friend Rose there, who was very nice and liked Doctor Who (we exchanged "'Blink' is amazing" sentiments). I bought a necklace with a fleur de lis on, because it was pretty and more importantly on sale, and discovered that Hot Topic is a very bad place for me to be and I should never go there again. SO MUCH PRETTY I CANNOT POSSIBLY AFFORD ALKFHHG. I lost my heart to a couple of corset blouses (one was maroon) and some lace-up elbow-length gloves and a double-breasted hoodie and plaid jumpers (one purple with a sort of bodice, one red and double-breasted) and -- and it was just bad. *weeps* Music for a Song, however, was very nice and full of discount music, and perseverance was shown to come through when I spent at least fifteen minutes flipping through some of the discount-discount racks and found, to my glee and astonishment, Over the Rhine's Films for Radio, for eight dollars. OVER THE RHINE. AND I BOUGHT IT NOT-ON-THE-INTERNET. I did a little dance in the aisle, I was that pleased. (It is, by the by, fabulous. More on that eventually. I hope.) Mrs Nielson picked us up after the dance lesson and we had dinner at some restaurant I can't remember, but the food was very tasty and I must have drunk about three glasses of water.
iii. Monday my guitar lesson went very well, and Mum bought me new earbuds afterwards, which I am very pleased with because they are turquoise and padded and actually stay in my ears. Silly thing to be excited about but the brilliant turquoise and the bright green of Moony's case are very cheering. And I found the loveliest dress at the Goodwill, all cream and old-fashioned and textured with lace (I owe Mum cookies for it -- well, not anymore, cos I baked them today). Dear me, this is turning out very frivolous and laundry-list-ish. But new clothing is very cheering, although it's really a summer dress and I shall appreciate it much more then.
I spent the night at Alessandra's and there was room-straightening and silly conversations and somewhat more serious ones and Buffyery and getting up before nine-thirty argh but alas, no little marshmallows. Heh.

Date: 2008-02-27 10:31 pm (UTC)I am exceedingly jealous of your summer dress. I don't have any, and I really want at least one, as well as some pretty summer skirts and hats. I don't think we have any resale shops around here, though I should probably go into the city someday with this mission in mind. (I live near Chicago.)

P.S. SNOW, BEGONE.

Date: 2008-02-28 06:17 am (UTC)Monday night was great fun. Hurray!
I woke up this morning and didn't know what day it was. I didn't know what day tomorrow was, or what day yesterday was, or how many days it had been since I went to church on Sunday. I think I was up for half an hour to an hour before I finally asked Mrs. N 'cause it was bugging me.
