Aaaack, it's my least favourite part of any trip: the last few hours before we leave. (I say 'last few hours' because, um, it's nine thirty now, and Dad and I are getting up at five.) All the scrambling and madness and me being sure I'm forgetting something important and, as usual, only beginning to pack at the last minute (though that's usually not difficult, really: decide which summer dresses are current favourite, find a sweater or two for the nights, and somehow locate socks and underwear, bonus points if socks match). Also I baked cookies for the trip on Dad's orders -- chocolate crinkles -- and cannot stop eating them, oh no!

Imagine, this time tomorrow I'll be lying in the grass listening to... let me check the schedule... Travis Tritt and Jerry Douglas? Meh. Will probably skip out on that for the Opening NIght Dance with, hey, Scythian! (Hee, local friends, remember when you went to see them and were all telling me I had to see them too? YAY. I'll pretend you're there; it'll be awesome.) Jerry Douglas is good, but I've seen him twice before and he's never particularly wowed me stylistically -- of course he's brilliant and all, it's just not something I get excited about. And Travis Tritt... um, not my cup of absinthe, thanks. Anyway DANCE. With SCYTHIAN.

Thus far this is the first time I've attended a folk music festival without my iPod breaking a day or two beforehand. I don't even know, you guys.

Also it occurs to me that last year I wore my Vienna Teng t-shirt on the way up, too.

One more thing. No, two more things. One: Martha Tilston is bloody amazing. I mean, if Steve Tilston, performer of one of the top five best shows I have ever seen in my life, and definitely the best one-man-and-one-guitar-and-a-harmonica show I've ever witnessed, was going to have a daughter, it stands to reason that she would inherit a modicum of awesome. I just wasn't prepared for how much her album was not only fantastic but so exactly in line with my tastes. And this was an album she recorded partially out of doors and gave away for free on her website! Two; for a taste, Miss Tilston features on the mix I just posted on [livejournal.com profile] balladrie. Oddly, the last mix I posted was also finalised the evening before I left for a trip, in that case, Christmas holidays with relatives. Huh.

Also, grr. Going to miss Dollhouse on Friday. Couldn't the break week be this week instead of last? And I'll miss next week's, too, on account of how I will be flying to see [profile] lady_moriel at the time. (But then we can watch the episode together! And flail like the nerdy fangirls we are!)

YES. I am the most AWFUL thing at packing -- I either stay up until 3am packing an overnight bag or I'm packing right up until I get in the car.
Mmmm chocolate crinkles ... ;)

I hope you have a wonderful wonderful time, dear! ♥!!

I have packed a few hours before a trip. More than once. More than twice. :/ And I always grab something on the way out... even if we're only going to church or a picnic. *facepalm* Also the weight of my shoulder bag may dislocate my shoulders eventually. Sigh.

ALSO THEY HAD WAISTCOATS. :D

They had waistcoats????? But. ...but.. but... They didn't have those when I saw them. Perhaps they are developing more of an ego. :P Did they play the depraved rendition of Danny Boy?

Clearly they like me better. (Also it was nighttime and cooler. Alas, when I saw them again yesterday afternoon, they were only wearing nice button-down shirts and jeans and things. But the guitarist had a necktie.) And no, they didn't play the depraved version of Danny Boy! I was most displeased with them. But they made up for it by making us all line dance.

Some day I will actually go to a multi-day music festival for more than one day. And Scythian! How I want to see them! Have fun my dear :)

Someday they will invent ones that aren't in the heat of summer. (North Carolina in April, of course, equals DuBois in July. :p)

Scythian was brilliant. (And, um, definitely the most attractive male personages at almost any festival to which I have been...AND IN WAISTCOATS. Cannot get over the waistcoats. ^-^)

Well, it's been rather warm here too, what with 80 degree temperatures and all. :P

And waistcoats?! How bloody marvelous! (I say, will you be home tomorrow? We should like to bring you your cat)

KITTENNNN PICTURRRRRES

...Also you will get to meet my new dog (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=3000511&id=568550254). Well, my family's dog (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=3000512&id=568550254). But still. It wasn't quite as much of an impulse-decision as it sounds like...and I know you're not much of a dog person, but he is very cute (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=3007212&id=568550254), and also very good-natured (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=3007214&id=568550254) (uh. Google/Firefox spellcheck, I like you, but...since when is good-natured not a word?), which is nice since our cat...well, she has Moods. You know how cats are. :p

Edited because, duh, the ability to make links is there for a reason.

I love Scythian!!! They went to the college I wanted to go to and many of my dear ones go to, and I know people who are their personal friends. :) They are such an awesome band, musically and as people ... and great fun to dance to.

Ha ha, it seems like everyone knows them! That's fantastic! They were indeed great fun and friendly and, you know, excellent musicians to boot. And they got into the festival by attending it last year as laypeople and playing by the shuttle areas until they were invited to come back as musicians. Gotta admire that kind of stubborn dedication. :D

Scythian! I so badly want to see them again. Listening to the album doesn't even vaguely compare to how utterly amazing they are live.

Have fun. Take pictures. That was the biggest problem with when H and I saw Scythian. We had no camera....

I got some pictures of them when they played the first set, opening up the dance tent. IN WAISTCOATS. (I keep mentioning this, BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT. :D) At one point they jumped off the stage and into the crowd, still playing, and I danced with the fiddler. It was completely brilliant.

Maaaan, I wish I could go with you. Did I mention how I haven't really been to a folk festival because there really aren't any here? (...No, I really can't remember, my brain is so shot after that all-nighter Wednesday night. >_< )

Yeah so I saw your new mix and got kind of flaily because, you know, you made a new mix, and I downloaded it...and it's still sitting forlornly on my desktop in its zip folder because that was pretty much when I had my two papers to write and stayed up ALL NIGHT and I've had NO TIME. Which is why I also have several other forlorn zips on my desktop, most from [livejournal.com profile] musicyardsale, and I just haven't had time to unzip and load them. BUT I WILL. LIKE, TOMORROW. AND I WILL LISTEN AND IT WILL BE BRILLIANT, BECAUSE ALL YOUR MIXES ARE, BECAUSE YOU ARE BRILLIANT.

Also I want you to come back now because I want to flail more over the fact that EXACTLY A WEEK FROM NOW I WILL BE MEETING YOU AT THE AIRPORT. LIKE, RIGHT NOW, THIS MINUTE, YOUR PLANE WILL BE ON THE RUNWAY which of course assumes it isn't running late. As such things usually do. BUT STILL. Also-also I wanted to ask: I was in Icing (Claire's slightly more grownup store) last week and they had an ampersand necklace on sale for like four bucks. I didn't buy it because it's gold and I couldn't think what I could wear with it, but I kind of still want it and wondered if I should get one for you too since it might be gone by the time you're here? ...of course it might be gone already, but. Annnd probably this would have to be a thing where I buy it and you pay me back because, uh, I'm reeeally broke. Also I already bought you a bunch of random gifts. >_<

Oh oh and we should make cookies and things too. ...Now I'm hungry.

♥ ♥ ♥

I wish you could have come! You would have loved Scythian.

Heh, I'm even worse, re. downloads, because I just have massive amounts of them saved to my LJ memories or in my favourites, waiting for me to get around to them, poor things. (Also I made the mix in like three days. By accident. Why this will not happen with, say, the Remus-centric counterpart to in the winter of my discontent, or the After the Bombs mix, or the Drusilla mix, or the Firefly one, or the River one, or the Buffy/Angel one that keeps morphing into different things, or the Buffy/Spike one that can't seem to start, or... Well, now I've just effectively killed them all by mentioning them, so there's that.)

I AM BACK NOW SO FLAILING CAN COMMENCE. I still don't really believe that I am actually getting onto a plane and that eventually I will end up in Alaska and be picked up by you. It seems very unlikely, like a thing that happens in a book. Especially the bit where I fly all on my lonesome and don't die or end up trapped in Michigan which isn't much better.

WAIT WAIT AMPERSAND NECKLACE?? I will totally pay you back! If it is still there. I has a nerdy. ^-^ (Also, silly Kyra, gold goes with everything! Although I prefer silver in general. But still OMG I JUST REALISED WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS: SEMI-COLON EARRINGS.)
