So, my parents are my heroes right now for Pure, Unadulturated Geekiness. Mum told me this ages ago, but I'd forgotten: Mum and Dad used to have a cat named Misty. She was my other mother for the first year or two of my life; she used to bother Mum when I cried, and she slept in my crib sometimes. Unfortunately, she was hit by a car when I was two. But anyway--Misty was only her nickname. Her full name was Mrs. Mistofolees. Mum and Dad figured that the reason why Mr. Mistofolees of T.S. Eliot's delightful Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats was such a marvel was because "he" pulled nine kittens out of a hat, thus proving that "he" was actually a she in disguise, hence the cat's name.

But when Mum recounted this to me again recently, her response to my giddy geekish rapture was: "Oh, well, the Sweeneys (friends of parents) named their cat Macavity."

Here my mind went, with a bit of a leap, SWEENEY? I'd almost completely forgotten about them, although they visited us in Massachusetts, and that was long before I was interested in any Eliot other than Practical Cats, so I never made the connection. Now, I have no idea if Mr. Sweeney has ever been Erect, or Among the Nightengales, or if the man in the Spanish cape has ever tried to sit on his knees, but I am already longing to meet him again and ask him these questions, because if he understands them, he will be my hero forever.

Random: what do you think of Snow Patrol?

Oh, I love it. I really do. [livejournal.com profile] lady_moriel sent me the song "Run" a while back, which was also beautiful, so I went "oooh, Snow Patrol". (And, er, I've played it thirteen times since last night. Heh. Actually, I'm playing it right now.) I also nicked KT Tunstall, which is my new happy bounce-about-to song, and Death Cab, which is pretty. And I might nick Iron & Wine later if my computer's in a good mood, and I'm not trying to do sixteen things at once. :p

You should get some Death Cab and Iron & Wine from Ruth Ann. Or from me, because she sent me four Death Cab songs and Iron & Wine's "Such Great Heights" cover.

Iron and Wine covered Such Great Heights?

Can I please have a copy? *begs*

Ooh, sure. Should I just send it to your LJ address? I have no idea what the account size is there or if there's a limit on attachments, so I figured I should ask...

Since that address may expire anytime - my paid account expires today - my regular email might be a better idea. :)

And you are now my favorite person ever.

Yes, Ruth Ann sent me both versions of "Such Great Heights"; I keep switching between which one I prefer. (The Iron & Wine version is on my "Quiet, Melancholy Remus/Tonks Songs" playlist, which has a better title, if I could remember it. Because my playlist obsession is going much, much, much too far...)

...But any music you wish to send me is perfectly fine... *waggles eyebrows*

Er. How does one do that, anyway? It makes my forehead sore.

At some point, I'll transfer my CD of Final Straw - my current copies of the songs are copy-protected, but at some point I'll upload the entire album.

Isn't KT Tunstall fun? [livejournal.com profile] crisiks introduced me to her music.

Definitely snag Iron and Wine - I think you'd definitely like it.

See, this is why I need to make poetry my project this summer. I get the Mistofolees reference--I do vaguely remember it from Practical Cats--but not the Mr. Sweeney stuff. And I still haven't read The Waste Land.

Also, Snow Patrol is love, except when it's, you know, not. I know I read some of their other lyrics and wasn't impressed by the...er...morals of such, though I don't remember quite what I read; admittedly, titles like "Make Love to Me Forever" and "One Hundred Things You Should Have Down in Bed" don't exactly speak well for their contents.

Which is why I need to read more lyrics and get all the ones that are okay. :p

The Sweeney poems are somewhat...odd. Odder than normal Eliot, anyway. I have absolutely no idea what they're about, especially as they're sort of weirdly comical, but still...odd.

Re: last. That's what the library iTunes is for. (And I'm totally going to buy one of those gift cards Ruth Ann mentioned now. You! Get a better computer! With, um...hmm. You could threaten Best Buy employees with your fangs until they gave you stuff, I guess.)
