I had two intelligent posts compsed in my head (I won't tell you what they are about lest I jinx them and never actually write them up, which is what always seems to happen when I say that I am going to post something) but my mind is taking its habitual leave of absence (really, haven't been feeling very right in the head for a while), so there is nothing especially scintillating forthcoming. Wallace & Gromit is a nice diversion, though; the siblings and I had a marathon of all three short films and Curse of the Were-Rabbit tonight. With popcorn.

(And, um. Are you lot sure you haven't got any really angry songs about what ghastly trouble the ocean is? No-one? *droop* Because, yeah. I'm trying to sort out the tracks I've got for the Mariner's Wife mix, and it's not--it's got holes, you know. I'm sort of shocked that I've managed to get nine tracks at all, though. [profile] lady_moriel's suggestion of Emiliana Torrini's 'Sea People' was a good one, except it's a really difficult song to fit in naturally. It feels as though it ought to begin or end something, but it can't, thematically. Agh. Still looking for my drowning song, too. Charlotte Martin's 'The Flood' is v. lovely, but it's--not quite angry enough; it makes a nice sad reflective end to the whole thing, but not a climax. ...Egad, I'm going on and on about my odd little projects again and not doing anything productive. Aaagh. *goes to bed*)

Also, PBS, will you please stop playing weird stuff like Elvis concerts instead of Monty Python? *woe* I miss it terribly. I mean, really. Elvis concerts. It's St. Patrick's Day; can't you at least get, I don't know, that Van Morrison concert from last December or something? Or, I don't know, LOREENA MCKENNITT? If WGBH were here...! The large important cities have got it so much better in public television. *is totally not digging out a Mary Black album for an absurdly late Irish music mix, NEVERRR*

Yeah, I know. Go to bed.

I have all kinds of intelligent posts languishing in my head somewhere. Have you noticed I haven't posted any in, I don't know, ages? (Well. I won't lie; that's partly because of um...a semi-recent comment on my Xanga. But also I'm lazy. And busy.)

Angry songs about the ocean...I feel like I do, or should, or something, but I just can't think of any offhand. I did a little looking around, and none of these are perfect, but you might consider Apres Moi by Regina Spektor (http://artists.letssingit.com/apres-moi-lyrics-apres-moi-l486vcw), because it's sort of angry and uses the line "After me comes the flood"...A Bad Dream by Keane (http://artists.letssingit.com/keane-lyrics-a-bad-dream-7s3vg59) isn't actually about the ocean, but the chorus sounds sort of appropriate, Crystal Ball (http://artists.letssingit.com/keane-lyrics-crystal-ball-dgf9v3p) more so because of the line about the iron sea. (I'm pretty sure I have all of those songs, if you're at all interested.) None of those are perfect, though; I'll keep thinking about it. As for "Sea People" and "The Flood," though--there's always bonus tracks. Heck, you could have a bonus track at the beginning and another at the end, so it wouldn't matter that they don't quite fit thematically because they're not supposed to, but it'll still sound right when people listen to it.

I regularly make posts at one a.m.-ish; perhaps that's why they never make any sense. :) Wallace & Gromit is so much love, though; that was a fantastic film. There's a convoluted story attached to that, actually. O.o

What sort of sound are you looking for re. your mix, again? I just remembered that The Shins' Wincing the Night Away has a lot of nautical themes, but they've got a very poppy sound, so they may not fit.

Angry sea songs... I don't know. I forget if I've mentioned these to you though: The Blackbird Of Sweet Avondale, Johnny And Molly, Lowlands Of Holland (this could be taken as a mad one, slightly), all by Dan Cleary in Across the Sea.

Flogging Molly might have a mad song though...I don't know. I've never looked into their lyrics really. And I don't own any of the songs.

I stumbled upon your journal from some random icons journal, I think... but I'm adding you because I like the way you write and you seem fun! :D

Mmkay, I was dinking around on Plugged In for no reason at all (er, 'cause it's more interesting than looking at the fall semester's schedule? Because it kind of is) and came across an article on Arcade Fire. They quote a bit from "Black Wave/Bad Vibrations," (http://artists.letssingit.com/arcade-fire-the-lyrics-black-wave-bad-vibrations-vq496cc) and it sounded halfway all right, so I read the lyrics and it really isn't quite, but you might look at it anyway. The bits about the wave and the "nothing lasts forever" and all aren't bad.

Mmkay, here's another thought that should have occurred to me before: Go make a vague request on [livejournal.com profile] teh_music. You need two recs per vague request, but that shouldn't be a big problem, and for the request, just tell people what tone and subject matter you're looking for, and you'll probably get something.

Also, I just realized I said "Mmkay" to start off both of my most recent comments. >_< I am awesome. ;p

The Fray's "Oceans Away," (http://artists.letssingit.com/fray-the-lyrics-oceans-away-9rsmtwz), again, isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it's not bad either. I have it from some mix, if you don't.

Again, not perfect, not angry enough, and not exactly about drowning, but you might look at Patrick Wolf's "Ghost Song (http://artists.letssingit.com/patrick-wolf-lyrics-ghost-song-1s3ms89)" or "The Shadowsea (http://artists.letssingit.com/patrick-wolf-lyrics-the-shadowsea-6l9m5dp)."

Oooh, I'll have to give those a better listen. I just played The Wind in the Wires for the first time about -- er, eight minutes ago?

The really aggravating thing is finding artists who sound perfect, but none of the lyrics match up. Imogen Heap would be perfect, but unless I've missed something, nothing quite works.

Waitwait, I know: try Into the Blue (http://www.mediafire.com/?bzw3ealj5zv) by Moby. It's not exactly angry at the sea, but it's absolutely about drowning, and the sound of it, I think, is perfect--female vocals, and it doesn't sound too modern for the mix.

Oooh, I think I am liking this. The drums sound similar to drums on other tracks I am using...

Yet another useless suggestion: Keane's "Walnut Tree" (http://artists.letssingit.com/keane-lyrics-walnut-tree-jgn4pc3) is about drowning and could be about lost love, with the whole waiting theme, and...I don't know...I'm thinking the bit about the tree ought to be significant and I can't entirely remember why, which is a good sign it's been too long since I've...been in the Tolkien canon at all. Oops. (But alda = tree, right? Like Aldarion? Or am I way off here? But Erendis must've liked trees...)

Anyway, if the lyrics sound at all useful, I just got the song off a recent fanmix, I forget which one, or I could upload it tomorrow if you like.

Kyra, you are a wonder. ♥ Seriously, I posted this months ago, and you still look out for songs for me. This is why you are awesome. (Well, that and other reasons. MOONY. :D)

Especially because, egad, this song is PERFECT. Especially because I've been looking for a song to represent the time after Aldarion and Erendis separated and were angsty a lot and hated each other and things. And Erendis did love trees; she begged Aldarion not to cut down trees in order to make ships, and he's all "pfft, not cut down trees?" and she's all "D:" and so he goes "okay, fine, name a tree you like and I won't cut it down", and she says, "ALL OF THEM", and he's all "WOMAN YOU ARE IMPOSSIBLE". Or something like that; I haven't actually read the story in quite some time. :p

Oh, and I found the mix with it in, so, yay!
